Northern Ireland, or Ireland as it was at the time, became a part of the United Kindom with the signing of the Act of Union 1800; this formalised the personal union that Ireland had enjoyed with England since 1541, when Ireland procraimed Henry VIII to be King of Ireland as well as King of England.
It was in 1922 with the sesession of Irish Free State and the signing of the Anglo Irish Treaty that Northern Ireland became a separate state from the rest of Ireland and the UK became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Northern Ireland is comprised of 6 counties; Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Londonderry and Tyrone; and offers many wonderful attractions and beautiful views for those who wisely choose to visit Northern Ireland.
