About us

Site concept

touringgb.co.uk is being developed to to try and merge the traditional tourism site with the concept of a Wiki.

We hope to provide more targeted information for the tourist than that provided by most Wiki sites; since by their very concept Wiki try to cover everything relating to the specific subject.

In addition to providing such useful general information about the countries, counties and towns/cities we also hope to offer a good selection of places to stay, places to eat and of course places to visit in each of these settings.

We purposefully don't plan to require the selection of filters to find something; but to offer a broad selection. We know that most people will be like we are, non-too-sure exactly what we want to know and so want to get some ideas given to us.

Where's the money

"Come on guys," I hear you cry "you're trying to tell us that you are only doing this out of the goodness of your hearts huh"

Well, not totally, no. A large part behind this site is truly altruistic; I could have done the same but in a much simpler manner, for much less effort, but I didn't want to. Part of doing this is purely for the pride of doing it. Full time work pays the bills; this is fun and I hope it will become more and more useful.

Having said that, I do hope to make some spending money out of this, and if I could work part time and spend the rest of the time working on this, adding more and more features, improving the look, ah you get the message, then that would be fantastic.

So to pay for the web-space and maybe get me a few pennies I have put on the affiliate advertising; and this like the rest of the site will develop over time to be more useful and more specific. Also, I've put in the premium option, which I hope to keep FREE for a long time if not forever. But even if I don't I'll be looking at £5 or £10 (ex VAT) for the year - so not much, but could let me get my wish of spending more time developing and improving touringgb.co.uk.
